Fresh Fall Shots

converse and fall leaves

Photography has quickly transitioned into one of my absolute favorite hobbies of all time. Shoutout to my Nikon D40 DSLR for helping make it all possible. I'm fueled by capturing the world in which we live. Its mysteries and secrets I have to explore and share as I look through my lens. I have always been fascinated with the idea of savoring a moment so that it may last for a lifetime. Photographs, in my opinion, is the most intriguing way to capture the true essence of a moment in time. While I consider myself to be but an amateur, I feel I deserve a pat on the back for the massive amount I've learned thus far. With that being said, what better way to showcase my growth with a compilation of some of my own photography tricks.

Photography Tips

Finding Inspiration

The holidays are right around the corner, giving even more reason to shoot. Inspiration is everywhere and can be anything you make of it. Fall is an ideal time of year with exceptional sunsets, warm light, and phenomenal changing leaf colors.

Grab your camera and head out to capture a bit of fall foliage. The gathering and throwing of autumn leaves make for a dynamic and spontaneous shoot that embodies creativity and is sure to give you that warm, cozy, feeling inside.

Be sure to plan ahead in terms of what time of day you intend to take a couple shots. The earlier the better. Try heading out around sunrise or sunset as the light quality is at its peak. This golden light is ideal as it works to bring out the various reds and golds within your image.

Types of Camera Shots

Time to shoot — check, but a question worth asking is, "What do I photograph?" My answer: The possibilities are endless! I love this time of year as I get the opportunity to play around with the framing of my shots.

Although portraits and "outfit of the day" photos are worth capturing, being immersed in the outdoors is where it's really at. Don't be afraid to get up close to explore the detail on a single, crisp leaf, or step back to reveal the ever-changing landscape.

I highly recommend also exploring various angles to add character to your photograph. The "worm's-eye view" (a view from below) or a "bird's-eye view" ("an elevated view of an object from above") can do just the trick. This works to incorporate various perspectives to make for a more interesting image.

While leaves and trees seem to be the go-to during fall as they require minimal effort and can be found right in your own backyard , take it a step further by visiting farmer's markets, the local apple orchard or winery, a pumpkin patch, or popular flee market. These locations make for the perfect fall aesthetic. All it takes is a little digging.

Happy shooting!
